BMSC Manipur crowned champions of Nike Manchester United Premier Cup India 2014

BMSC Manipur beat Bengaluru FC in the final of Nike MUPC India 2014. They will represent India in the South East Asia regional finals in Thailand this June.
Birchandra Memorial Sporting Club- Manipur (BMSC) beat Bengaluru FC 3-1 in the finals of Nike’s Manchester United Premier Cup India 2014 at the Balewadi Stadium, Pune. The annual tournament witnessed some of the best U15 I-league, state and academy teams competing to earn the opportunity to represent India in the regional finals in Thailand this June.



Rahul Singh put BMSC ahead in the 11th minute before Lokesh equalized for Bengaluru four minutes later. However, victory was sealed for the side from Manipur in the second half as Lom Singham Reamei and Sweesh Singh struck in the 50th and 58th minute respectively.

Nike’s annual MUPC tournament, held in India under the aegis of the All India Football Federation, has become a platform to discover young talent who now represent the country at various levels. After nine years in India, MUPC is now part of the dreams of many young footballers across the length and breadth of the nation.
Speaking at the finals of MUPC India, Avinash Pant, Marketing Director Nike India Pvt. Ltd. said “Every year this tournament has seen some of the best U-15 teams in the country battle it out to earn the bragging rights of representing India at a global stage. Nike’s Manchester United Premier Cup will continue to be one of the most authentic U15 tournaments in India by providing these young footballers a platform to compete against the best in their age groups; not just in India but also at a global stage. We wish B.M.S.C Manipur all the luck for the regional finals in Thailand. They’ll be one step away from the finals at Old Trafford.”

Teams from the North and East zones of India competed in Delhi from January 15 to 18, while the teams from the West and South zones competed in Pune from January 19 to 22, 2014.

Nike athlete Bhaichung Bhutia said, “Nike’s Manchester United Premier Cup is one of the finest U15 tournaments in the India; a terrific platform that continues to build the sport at a grassroot level. The fact that so many young footballers from MUPC have gone on to play for India at various stages is a testimony of the success of this tournament. We hope that this year, B.M.S.C Manipur makes it to the Nike MUPC global Finals 2014.”
