Moin to serve as chief selector and manager: PCB

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former captain and coach Moin Khan as chief selector and Zaheer Abbas as adviser to the chairman.
Khan was the coach and Abbas was the batting consultant of the teams which recently could not defend its Asia Cup title and also could not make it to the semifinals of World Twenty20.
The PCB says in a statement on Monday that Khan will also be the team manager, with permission from his employer, Pakistan International Airlines.

“Given his vast experience Moin has now been given the responsibilities of chief selector and manager,” the Pakistan Cricket Board said in a statement.
It is the first time the board has handed the two roles to the same individual.
Khan, who played 69 Tests and 219 one-day internationals, was appointed chief selector last year but was not allowed to take up the position due to a court order.
“It is a big honour and a challenge,” he said. “I will be under the spotlight.”
Khan will be part of a three-man committee which will scrutinize applications for coaches that include head coach and fielding coach.
PCB directors Intikhab Alam and Haroon Rasheed are also part of the committee, and will give recommendations after the cut-off date for applications on May 5.
There is widespread speculation that Waqar Younis, a former assistant coach, could take over as head coach. Younis was one of the two coaches shortlisted by the previous coach-finding committee before Khan was given a two-month contract to cover the Asia Cup and World Twenty20.
Pakistan has a Test series against Sri Lanka in July-August, then takes on Australia in a one-off T20, three one-day internationals and two tests in the United Arab Emirates in October.
